Nexio Projects Bans Single-Use Plastic Water Bottles

Single-use plastic water bottles are now banned

As of today, we have chosen to ban all single-use plastic water bottles from our offices and work-from-home spaces.

Good news, right? We’d like to think so.

We believe that with simple everyday actions we can prevent large amounts of single-use plastic water bottles from entering our oceans. That’s why we’ve joined the Dopper Wave and signed the pledge to:

  1. Ban single-use plastic water bottles from our premises
  2. Encourage our colleagues and visitors to drink from the tap whenever possible
  3. Actively remind everyone to ALWAYS bring their own reusable bottle.
  4. Inspire other organisations and people to join the Dopper Wave too

This means that from now on you won’t find any single-use plastic water bottles in our offices.

By banning single-use plastic water bottles, we can save up to 480,000 single-use plastic water bottles a year. Huzzah!

Why we are doing this?

Every minute, a truckload of plastic waste enters our oceans.1 In that same minute, 1 million single-use plastic bottles are sold around the world.2 (Yikes.) Luckily, we can take action, and play our part in the fight against plastic pollution.

Some further facts & figures

  • 1 million single-use plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute.  But no longer by us!
  • Single-use plastic water bottles are made using oil and other fossil fuels, which are produced in a highly polluting industry.
  • Only 9% of all the plastic ever produced has been recycled. The rest is accumulating in landfills, incinerated, or ends up as litter in nature.
  • 8 million tons of plastics enter our oceans every year. Which explains why 80% of all waste in our oceans is plastic (of which 49% is single-use)
  • Without making changes like we are, it’s predicted that by 2050 the amount of plastic in the oceans will outweigh (in mass) the fish population.

Back to the good news

Clearly, it’s time to take action. For us, today, that action takes the form of banning single-use plastic water bottles and joining the Dopper Wave. While it may not sound like much in the grand (polluted) scheme of things, we’re not doing it alone. Because you’ll join us. Right?

Right. So are you curious about what you can do? Or do you have tips on what we can try tomorrow? We’d love to hear from you.
